Laser energy is directed at the targeted area, where it may be absorbed by pigmented cells. This can cause the pigment to darken before gradually shedding. The body’s natural processes may also play a role in the fading process.
The number of sessions varies depending on the type and depth of the concern. Some people may notice changes after 1–2 treatments, while others may need more. Sessions are usually spaced several weeks apart.
Most people describe the sensation as mild warmth or stinging. Discomfort varies, and your practitioner can discuss options to minimise this.
The treated area may appear darker or red for a few days before gradually shedding. Temporary swelling or sensitivity may also occur. Your health professional will provide aftercare guidance and explain possible risks.
